Session 1: Collecting Cavestar Report

General Summary

Location: James’s Home GM: Adam Players: Jeremy - Jordan Ramsay (Fiend-pact Warlock) Joshua - Lyle Greenleaf (Halfling Wild Magic Sorcerer) James - Ninylen Xilquinal (Mark of Shadow Elf Rogue) Alex - Ibun (Dwarven Knoweldge Cleric) Hans - Tedric (Human Hunter Ranger)   Voychik gave a bit of a briefing - Cavestar does not form as normal gems do, rather it only comes about through a complex set of circumstances. It starts with a fist-sized cave dwelling insect called the Sectar [I couldn’t remember the name and avoided it]. At a certain time of year the Sectar begin to burrow into the rock of their caves, near the mouth in preparation for hibernation. In burrowing, they gnaw on the rock and pass it through their digestive tract. The juices or processes or something in the way they consume the rock gives the resulting excretion very unique properties. The Sectar is in the habit of moving to the mouth of its burrow to ...make deposit nearby, adhering it to the upper surfaces of the cave mouth. If it is disturbed at this stage, the scat will quickly disintegrate. If it is exposed to sunlight for a few hours though, it will begin to glow faintly. It can then be collected. If it is left for another day, when the sunlight falls upon it again, it quickly breaks down. This makes it very hard to collect!   After a slightly overwhelming test of their mettle (Voychik animated some training dummies for the party to fight with), the brave adventurers set out into the wilderness. Tedric's navigational skill resulted in a fast trip, though they did pass large conical pits in the sand at the edge of the desert. Jordan Ramsay's eldritch blasts provoked some activity - some creature in the base of the pit flicked the falling sand back out.   The first cave they arrived at had no cavestar, and most of the party decided to explore further into the cave. They were ambushed by Kruthiks who had burrowed into the walls. Their cleric Ibun went down quite quickly, though the rest of the group were able to slay the monsters. Eventually Ibun came to. They found cavestar gems stashed in the kruthik burrows and teleported home with the gems and corpses.

Rewards Granted

Voychik provided each adventurer with a 20gp payment for their efforts. The kruthik corpses will be dissected and examined - there may be useful information that comes from this.

Missions/Quests Completed

The party seem to have uncovered the presence of kruthiks in the crags. For what purpose were they gathering cavestar?
