Session 49: Archi's Atonement

General Summary

Archi is up first after being told by the council that he will get a job to do, as part of his punishment. He ends up at his apothecary.

Keller gets up and finds the passage to Wyndsunheord, and warned off. He is pointed back to town and sees Owle practising his archery a bit on the merry side. He approaches him and starts talking to Owle.

Rab wakes up and makes his way out joining Keller and Owle, followed by Arne.

They then wake up Magnar, by Keller turning into a cockerel, calling out and pecking at the window. Owle tries to shoot Keller thinking he is a chicken and misses.

Assembled they go to get Archi who explains what happed and the punishment.

Shortly after a Burgeater arrives telling Archi that the council wants to see him.

They all go around to the council that has assembled, with Anselma arriving late, pissed after Owle had been out the whole night.

Father Tossil is also present and tells them that Archi is to get a snake cult mask from the Bohemian Massif. There is an old ruined overgrown city there that is believed to be there. It was initially stolen by bandits made up of Slavs and Saxons while being transported between Wein and Salzburg.. These bandits made their way to the Bohemian Massif and disappeared, and the local military refused to go into the forest, due to them being scared of local legends. They ask for specialists to go in to get the items.

They are given two teleportation stones. They act one way and one will take them there then disappear, and the other can take them back home. There is a third one that the council is keeping it just in case.

Rab runs about getting elements he had requested from the local leather workers, a hammer, and some vials of holy water. He has his axe treated by Archi to take on a silver coated edge.

This is after they are informed there are old myths & legends of the Bohemian Massif, of undead, lycanthropes, dragons, and such-like inhabiting it.

They get together and use the stone, and someone has either a dagger in their pocket or pleased to be hugging each other.

Appearing beside the road leading into the Bohemian Massif, and can see the remains of a wagon and two dead horses. Being there for a couple of days, They take a look and find a few clues.

There was a couple of people wearing heavy boots, likely armoured. There is a dozen other sets of footprints that look like they were wearing regular footwear. The wagon was attacked from either side.

The two horses were speared then had their heads & throats cut open by something similar to a khopesh style weapon. Keller, while examining the horses, wants to track down and punish the people who done this.

Something heavy was dragged off, and some of the footprints disappear into the forest while this was dragged on the road.

Travelling on in, Keller is leading using his Survival skills and notices the footprints eventually hook up on the road again. While doing so a bear, a very hungry bear charges out about, and Keller manages to talk it down from attacking and sends it on down south. It barges through them and carries on.

Magnar examines an overgrown stone on the side of the road. It says something in Latin, and Arne manages to use Tongues on it translating it to "To Lindwurm".

They carry on eventually finds some ruined stone buildings and some maintained ones beyond.

They decide to try to slip into the damaged empty buildings to hunker down and spy on what soon appears to be the city beyond. It has a ring of ruined empty buildings around it and looks partially rebuilt, and occupied.

Archi breaks off and walks into the city being stopped by 5 guards, all wearing scale mail with 4 having spears and circular shields. The leader has a Khopesh sword instead. The leader talks in a variety of languages eventually settling on a bastardised form of Germanic.

Archi asks about the mask, and is told that the leader doesn't know. Instead Archi is pointed to a nearby inn, with a sign of a bed with the legs of the bed have what looks like serpent tails as legs.

The rest follows and they go into the inn. There they are met with stares and silence. Approaching the innkeeper, the guard leader talks to him and says something.

The party goes and gets two rooms, along with food and drink, and Rab notices a scaly patch of skin on the innkeeper's right hand on the back of it. It looks strange and appears to be a congenital disorder.

They discuss the language spoken around them and it appears to be some form of Middle Eastern, and similar to Arabic, maybe. They aren't sure and there is emphasis with "ssss" sounds.

Then they go to bed.
