Session 4 - The Sand Region Report
General Summary
After meeting Durlosk Linlow the party retires to the Gold Leaf Inn for the night where there is a small celebration feast waiting for them prepared by Linn Lyler. The party enjoy different foods of this world and discover these also carry their own special properties to them. Once they had finished their small banquet the party rest for the big day that is ahead of them and relax for the last night in Dora. During the night a few of the party members experience peculiar visits to the windows of their rooms by shadow like creatures each proclaiming different feelings or events.
The morning rises and the party saying there goodbyes to the Lyler sister set out to meet Mr Linlow at the outer residential peak to catch the carriage out of the city. Durlosk is very pleased to see they did not change their mind and welcomes everyone warmly.
Once exited from the city the party meet with a chaperone, one of the kings guard who will be escorting them to the border. The party chats with Mr Linlow as they journey to the sand region taking notice of the way the world changes from one district to the other. Durlosk tells them of his fathers travels to the sands and discusses the similarities and differences in the worlds with the party.
Reaching the Barsil border, the guardsmen give the group directions for their destination and departs. Durlosk expresses his nerves about the things that live in the sands but settled by the party, fains confidence to push onward.
During the trudge through the dunes, Durlosk informs the party that they should push on through the night and not rest until tomorrow, they should not stay still.
Rosamilla and craig notice that the sand around them in the night is sieving and tumbling, they brought this up with their companion Durlosk and he, quite sternly, informs them that he knows and they are to continue moving onward and to not stop.
Feeling the exhaustion of the day and not being able to continue on, Ernest, Craig and Gilderam fall to there knees on the sand, the party tries to clamber together to lift them but not in time before the insect creatures the 'Ik'sas' appear, bursting from the earth.
The party began to battle the 3 large Ik'sas, trying to avoid there huge gnashing mandibles and their acidic spit.
As the last of the Ik'sas fall from combat, Rosamilla notices something about the sand around the creatures, it starts to sink around them, pulling them back into the earth. She yells to everyone to run and the group flees to the best of their abilities, being pulled under foot Craig, Ernest and Ellywick lose their footing and get caught in the drawing flow, trying to pull them down with the Ik'sas. Rosamilla acting quickly throws her rope toward Ernest, Ellywick in a trick of magic dissapears and reappears in the safety of the solid ground, Ernest grabs the rope thrown to him and with the assistance of Durlosk they heave Ernest out of the oppressing pull. Craig mustering his great strength, plants a solid arm into the sand and drags himself out of the sinking trap.
With all the party member safe from the sand grave, they continue on their track not wanting to stand still and disrupt more insects that may be lurking below.
Dawn rises and the party finally rests.
As the day dwindles Durlosk wakes and sits with his companions and apologises for his lack of information given to them, he hoped he wouldn't have to tell them of the creatures that skulk the desert but realises his faults and discusses with them all he knows, he tells them of the;
Ik’sas - Insect sand burrowers
Yashek - ancient myth
The Nook - once regular folk of Dora who's species did not adapt to the shift
Seraqi - desert crawlers
Kulu ya- bird animals similar to the Carocka
Avazi - has never heard much of these creatures but knows they dwell close to the outpost
With the sun beginning to set they continue on in search of the valley of the foe.
Seeing large protrusion standing out from the sand ahead, Durlosk seems to know where the party is and that they have only shifted their original course slightly.
Drawing near to the masses protruding from the dunes you can now see it is the bones of titanous creatures, the skeletons are sand swept, grey and appear very old. The height is twice the size of the insect Ik’sas you came across yesterday, you’re not entirely sure you have ever seen something so large. Strewn around them are momentous rusting swords and pieces of aged armour. Some skeletons have been swallowed by the sands only leaving the skulls remaining, others stiff in their place of what you assume were their last moments.
The party find the valley of the Foe and Durlosk tells them of his original thoughts of disbelief about their existence, he tells the party a part of the dark day tale they have not yet heard, about the direction the Foe travelled and the devastation they left.
Getting some unnerving feelings being so close to the bones of those that destroyed so many lives and would have destroyed his home Mr Linlow suggests they fix their position and continue onward.
The party move through the next night without any conflict and as the new day breaks they rest before searching for Old Colony Rock.
