Session 21: Road Trip Day Two
General Summary
After the morning chaos of searching for a missing pendant the rest of the day was fairly uneventful. After setting up for camp Tanaelia, working as a bodyguard for Beyd Sechepol who runs the wandering tavern traveling with the caravan, also serves drinks to the patrons, perhaps remembering a time in the past where this was much like a standard night for her. A Halfling the party had not yet met regaled those listening with a tale of a legendary stag with fur like spun gold and platinum antlers who was once a young elven princeling from a long forgotten kingdom cursed by the father of the woman he loved to take the form of a stag whenever he stepped foot outside of his castle walls. The Halfling, Enom Tobun, claims to have seen the stag once or twice near the Misty Forest while traveling the Trade Way. Some listened enraptured and some rolled their eyes at the story. When one person challenged him on the truth of his story he argued briefly before leaving in a sullen mood. After this Rahl approached an apparent human who was completely colored green. When asked about it she grew flustered and excused herself and left as soon as she could. Tanaelia and Mitzu talked to Rahl about his bluntness with her and Beyd interjected that she was a friendly enough sort, if quiet, unless asked about her condition, in which case she would grow quiet and leave.
After that Rahl pointed to a random person and said "The next round is on him!" only to find that the person he was pointing to was a dwarven woman, still in armor with a battle axe resting near her, and an lustrous beard woven with gemstones. Initially it looked like there would be a fight, but the dwarf agreed, declaring that Rahl would buy the next round. Just after this Rahl boasted that he could not die, and Tanaelia, seeming more sassy and relaxed in her role delivering drinks to the tavern patrons, loudly asked if anyone would like to test Rahl's claim. The aforementioned dwarf woman turned around looking intrigued, but declared that since this was not the place for a fight, she challenged Rahl to a drinking contest to see if he could survive that.
It started off with each of them holding their own, then Tanaelia started bringing first harder ale, then stronger drink still until Rahl passed out cold and the dwarf, looking strangely disappointed after the win, headed back to her bed on noticeably less steady legs.
After the night, Tanaelia was once again visited by a strange sequence of apocalyptic dreams. The world is destroyed by cold, choking fumes, lightning storms, waves of acid, and horrible fire. She saw a vision of a red scaled half-dragon or dragonborn with a large double-bladed axe receiving an orb from a blurry blue silhouette and holding it to the form of a five headed creature spewing poison clouds, fire, and lightning into the sky to the sound of raring thunder and ending with ten evil eyes glaring at her from the darkness.
Waking up shaking to the sound of thunder and poring rain the party chatted for a bit before continuing on. The travel was uneventful for a couple of days before they woke to the sound gentle rain on their tents and the storm receding in the distance. Stepping outside Jameak stepped on a small mushroom which let out a black cloud of spores and a moan of pain. Looking around he saw that the ground was covered in the small mushrooms for a far distance in each direction. He identified the mushroom as a deadly poison cloud mushroom and warned the others. Soon others started coming out of their tents, most eliciting similar results to Jameak. After some discussion about what to do the party decided to try to get people on the wagons for safety. They wrapped wet cloths around their faces to protect them from the spores and made some cloth strips for others in the caravan as well. After an initial run where Rahl helped protect several of the halflings around him, leaving a cloud of spores and horrific cries of pain in his wake the party managed to get everyone safely on the wagons and decided what to do next.
Figured out what the mushrooms were with Tany's spell, cleared them out with the help of other caravan members and Rahl's fire breath. Were attacked by perytons and fought them off with little injury. Made it out of the Fields of the Dead and to the part of the Trade Way between the Misty Forest and the Trollbark Forest where they saw a purple shadow in the trees before a web shot out from one of them and hit one of the horses.
