Homebrew, Ravenloft: Denizens of Darkness (3.5e)
Daylight Powerlessness. When exposed to natural sunlight, the zombie fog's movement becomes 0' & it becomes unable to take any action, bonus action, or reaction. Any undead creatures that were animated by the zombie fog also drop lifeless to the ground. The zombie fog regains its normal abilities once the sun sets.
Despairing Aura. Any creature within 5' of the fog must succeed on a DC 13 Charisma saving throw. This does not affect creatures that are constructs or undead. Failure: The creature is overcome with a debilitating despair for a duration of 10 minutes. For the duration, they can't take any bonus actions or reactions, they can't & their movement speed is reduced by half (rounded up). The despair ends early if the creature uses their action to reroll the save & succeeds, a spell like Dispel Magic or Remove Curse is cast on the despairing creature, or if the zombie fog is destroyed. Success: The creature is immune to the zombie fog's despairing aura for the next 24 hours.
Necrotic Vapors. Any creature that takes damage while within the zombie fog takes an additional 10 (3d6) necrotic damage. This only affects a creature the first time it is damaged per round. Also, any creature that is making death saving throws while within the zombie fog does so at disadvantage. This does not affect creatures that are constructs or undead.
Vaporous Body. The zombie fog can occupy another creature's space & vice versa, & the swarm can move through any opening that isn't airtight. The zombie fog can't regain hit points or gain temporary hit points.
Multiattack. The zombie fog can make up to two Life Drain attacks.
Life Drain. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 0', one target. Hit: 7 (2d6) necrotic damage.
Raise Fog Cadavers. The zombie fog chooses up to three corpses of medium or small humanoids within 5' of itself. It can target buried corpses as long as they are less than 5' beneath the ground's surface & not buried in hallowed ground or subject to similar protections against necromancy such as the spell Gentle Repose. The targets become zombies under the control of the zombie fog & can't leave the area occupied by the zombie fog.
The zombie fog can have up to 10 zombies under its command, deciding what actions the zombies take on their next turn or issuing a general command for the zombies follow until the task is complete. If the zombie fog issues no commands, the zombies take the Dodge action & move to avoid harm.
If a zombie raised by the zombie fog is slain, the zombie's corpse can be raised again by the fog unless the corpse is completely destroyed, such as by disintegration or incineration.
