This Martial Esoteric Supplement is bound in thin sheets of pale bark, wrapped tightly in braided black and red cord. The texture is worn smooth by countless hands, and faint Sylvan glyphs are etched along the edges in shimmering lacquer. Opening it reveals scraps of parchment inscribed in flowing calligraphy, annotated with disciplined brushstrokes detailing focused breathing, the channeling of elemental energy, and ritual prayers to the hidden spirits of steel.
Among the noble families of the I’kaid Isles, Living Force is often the first esoteric discipline taught to heirs destined to wield the ancestral blade. It is said that true mastery of sword and spirit begins with understanding the forces that flow through the world and learning to shape them into one’s strike.
Living Force
When you have used your action to cause acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage from any source, you can use your bonus action to swing a melee weapon through the residual energy of that type, imbuing it with its power. This effect only works if the weapon does not already deal damage of the chosen type in its base form.
For the next minute, the imbued weapon is wreathed in that energy, dealing an additional 1d6 damage of the same type on hit. This additional damage increases to 2d6 at 5th level, 3d6 at 11th and 4d6 at 17th level.
How Supplement Techniques Work
To learn a supplement technique from a manuscript, a character must spend a total of 20 hours studying and practicing the contents described within. This time does not need to be consecutive but must be completed within a 1-month period. The manuscript must remain in the character’s possession for the entire duration of this training. Upon completion, the character gains the abilities granted by that supplement technique.
A character may have a number of supplement techniques memorized equal to their level divided by 5 (rounded down). Supplement techniques function in all other ways as techniques, but they do not count against the limit of one full technique memorized at any given time.
A manuscript is not required to use a supplement technique once learned, but it is required to relearn a supplement technique after it has been replaced. A character may retrain and replace a supplement technique by following the same rules as initial training. Upon completion, the previous supplement technique is lost, and the character gains only the new supplement technique’s abilities. Any features granted by the replaced supplement technique are no longer available.
