Ring
Uncommon
Description.
This finely crafted signet ring is made from a Stern-silver alloy, known for its durability and magical conductivity. The inner surface of the band is carved with three distinct runes, each linked to a faintly glowing thread of arcane energy. A narrow indented groove wraps around the ring's outer circumference, within which a thin, silvery string is coiled.
At the top of the ring sits a rectangular signet plate with a small recessed hole—this is where the tip of the string can be anchored when deployed.
Alerting String Trap.
You can place the string's end from the ring’s signet onto a surface (such as a wall, tree, or floor), setting it as the starting point. As you move, the string unravels, remaining anchored to the ring itself. You can then fix the other end of the string to a second point within 10 feet of the start, forming a thin, nearly invisible wire.
Once placed, one of the three runes inside the ring ignites softly. You can have up to three strings active at a time.
If any
creature crosses or breaks one of the strings while you're
within 1 mile, the corresponding rune flares and
a mental ping is sent to you.
This
alert wakes you if you are asleep and tells you which specific string was disturbed.
If you get further than 1 mile from a wire, it dissipates into the air.
If you create a fourth one, while 3 wires are already active, the last one you created dissipates and the new one takes its rune space.
The strings cannot be reused once broken, but the ring
regains all three strings at the end of a long rest as the threads reweave themselves inside the groove.
