Le Chasseur du Ciel [The Sky Hunter]

Profile:

Maelie Arsenault immediately fell in love with airships even before her first trip on one. As her fortune grew, she continued to dream and plan for her own purchase, a luxury liner for herself, family, and friends to travel Europa and beyond in comfort and style. But after her experience during the dragon attack on Kemburg, her dream changed. Frustrated at the limits of what she could put her fortune towards aside from sponsoring rebuilding efforts and refugee programs. She wanted to do more. She wanted to go on the offense.

As the Kaiba Corporations advancement of airship technology reached a point where the industry commercialized and licensing was opened, she saw her chance. While touring factories in Rodstock to invest in, she found a firm that was stalled due to defaulted contracts on a prototype frigate. Supply lines had been strained as the Rooks ordered reliable and reinforced galleons for their fight against the dragons and the firm was slowly losing workers to the other factories.

Maelie offered to buy out the factory if they would finish the airship for her. She used her Syndicate contacts to divert supplies to quickly finish the work, arm the ship, and get it operational. After a successful test of its hybrid Fire/Air Elemental Engines, its short maiden voyage took it from Rodstock to Novandria where she surprised her fellow Midnighters and Outfitting company with their new form of transport.

Ship Interior Walkways:

The interior walkways of the Sky Hunter are a maze of stairways, ladders, and sealable doors to prevent the spread of fires or other dangers during travel.

Cargo Hold:

The spacious cargo hold of the Sky Hunter can fit up to 200 tons of supplies. While most of the space is clear for numerous crates, carrels, and other containers, one corner of the cargo hold is separately designed as a stable and vehicle bay. Designed for horses and other large mounts, the stalls allow the Midnighters to bring their own ground transportation with them. In addition, Maelie has a small garage set aside for her velocipede bike.

Bridge:

The bridge at the front of the ship offers a commanding view of the airships path. Multiple stations for navigators, communications, and officers flank the pilot’s station. Currently, either First Officer Viktor Vasko or Captain Maelie Arsenault herself pilots the Sky Hunter on her voyages.

Lower Observation Deck:

The lower observation deck has built in luxury seating and tables for drinks with the layout of a lounge. The deck offers the Midnighters and guests a place to spend time on a long voyage while enjoying a view of the sky free of the busy work of the ship’s crew.

Crew Quarters:

Quarters for the crew are small but functional, sometimes located near their stations in case of emergencies. While not spacious, Maelie ensures that their bedding and rations are of the highest quality.

Adventurer Quarters:

Maelie had four cabins retrofitted with additional room, storage, and space for her adventuring companions and guests. While not as luxurious as she’d like, Mordecai noted that no one but her would mind.

Captain (Maelie’s) Quarters:

The captain’s cabin at the back of the main deck has an expansive space for Maelie to work in. Walls lined with cabinets of various rifles and adventuring gear on one side, the opposite storing maps of Europa and beyond. A workbench provides her space to do maintenance on her firearms.
Her personal space provides her usual luxuries including a large plush bed and pillows, comfortable seating on a sofa with a small collection of books and puzzle boxes for long voyages. A smaller bed across the room is reserved for her daughter, Elsinore, for voyages that do not inherently involve adventure and danger.

Engine Room:

The true pride of Maelie’s Sky Hunter is its hybrid engine. Primarily fueled by fire elemental capacitors, the ship’s powerful thrusters make the ship faster than anything other than a modified schooner. Air elemental capacitors refine the raw power of the fire-based reactor increasing efficiency by minimizing power loss.

Weapons Deck:

Currently housing two 18-pounder long guns and two 12-pounder carronades, Maelie hopes to increase the armaments of her ship to 36-pounders for both long and short range. Complimented by a sharp reinforced ram at the front of the ship, the captain hopes her ship will give the Midnighters a fighting chance against the dragons.
