Borth (Ship Construction, Seaworthyness)

Arcanamm: Ride the Waves Undaunted
Shaping Time: 2 days
Effect Occurs: Immediately after activation
Usable By: The runegraver

Abilities

The Borth rune is used by many who sail the seas, or skate across the vast southern glaciers on sailing sleds.

1st Level

The Borth rune is usually made into a brand. The brand is then burned by a hot iron into the keel, stanchions, ribs, or hull planking on a large sailing vessel. After the brand is burned, the runegraver activates it by covering it with a sample of the water the vessel sails in, or snow or ice the vessel skates on. The location of the rune determines the most potent protection and strength, but the rune imparts benefits to the entire sailing vessel. The component which is covered by the rune is resistant to all damage, and takes twice as much structural damage to destroy. The captain makes sailing checks at advantage.

4th Level

The runegraver inscribing the rune also imparts advantage made for any structural saving throws to any part of the ship.

8th level

the runegraver inscribing the rune also grants damage resistance to all parts of the ship.

12th level

The runegraver inscribing the rune also grants immunity to one type of damage.

16th level

The runegraver inscribing the rune also creates a special feature that is part of the ship’s design, including boosts to speed, making the craft impossible to capsize, rendering the sails impervious to damage, or even making the craft able to fly! It is up to the DM to help the runegraver choose an appropriate effect. Once the rune is engraved on the ship, the rune remains active until the ship has taken damage equal to twice its normal capacity for damage. Once that capacity has been exceeded, the rune’s power is exhausted. Only one such rune can be active on a ship at any time. If a second rune is inscribed, the first one will cease to function.
